Milwaukee M18 FUEL D Handle Jigsaw 2737 20 Review

FULL REVIEW HERE: 🤍 The M18 FUEL D-Handle Jig Saw is a Gen 2 upgrade from an earlier version. This new saw is brushless, has increased SPM, dust collection and an LED light. Brushless Motor Equipped with a brushless motor, it operates at a higher blade speed than corded jig saws. At 3500 strokes per minute [SPM] this saw is capable of cutting up to 105 linear feet of ¾” laminated particle board, that’s the equivalent to about 18 sink cut outs. We tested this saws noise level, and measured its no-load speed at 101 Decibels. Variable Speed There is no variable speed dial adjustment on this saw, it does have a variable speed trigger that controls the saw from 0 to 3,500 strokes per minute. [SPM] This is a blade stroke increase from the older saw that offered 2,700 SPM. We like that the trigger on this saw is larger and can accommodate two fingers which can reduce stress and fatigue on the user. Not having a variable speed dial is an issue with us. Not having a variable speed requires you to operate the tool with divided attention tasks. That means you have to squeeze the variable speed trigger to the speed you desire, all while trying to make a great cut. For precise tasks I prefer a saw that has a VS setting that lets you “set and forget,” the speed so I can pull the trigger fully, and focus on making that precise cut. We also found that the VS trigger was not sensitive enough to get a super slow start cut, and started at a faster ramp up speed than we’d prefer. Accuracy and Blade Deflection I often find that a jigsaw’s quality can be summed up pretty fast if you try to cut a 45-degree bevel on a piece of 3/4″ plywood. If you can cut that bevel in a nice straight line without fighting the jigsaw than you’ve got a winning combination. This jigsaw had no problem cutting nice straight 45-degree bevel cuts over long lengths. We tested the jigsaw in Mahogany, Pine and plywood. The saw cuts well in all of those materials, and tracks well. We made straight, 45 degree and scroll cuts and checked for square and parallels. We also did see some moderate, and aggressive scroll cutting in plywood and on this test we did see some moderate deflection on the aggressive scrolls. When the saw is in the highest orbital setting it plows through material easily – there is no wish for more power on this saw. Vibration  All jigsaws employ some sort of counterbalance system to reduce the up-and-down shaking created by the reciprocating plunger and blade. The Milwaukee saw does have noticeable vibration, and more than the new Dewalt XR jigsaw that we just tested. Blade Change and Blade Stroke The front of this tool has a plastic, key-less, slide actuated, blade change that ejects the blade. This jigsaw uses all standard T-shank blades. The saw features a 1-inch stroke length, 4-position orbital action switch to allow the jigsaw versatility when cutting different materials. Bevel Adjustment The keyless shoe bevel has positive detents at 0°, 15°, 30° and 45° but will also hold its position in between those settings well. 1 LED Light The M18 FUEL D-Handle Jig Saw has one integrated LED that illuminates the work area well and stays on for 11 seconds after the trigger is released. Cut Line Blower An On/Off cut line blower keeps the cut line clear of debris, and allows user to turn off blower when using dust extraction.   Dust Collection  The Milwaukee saw includes a dust cover and dust extraction tube. The saw does a reasonable good job at collecting dust in the non-orbital mode. Weight The M18 FUEL D-Handle Jig Saw weighs 6.4 lbs with 5.0 Ah battery and 4.8 lbs. as a bare tool. Milwaukee uses a lot of plastic parts on this saw, probably to keep the weight down, in an already BID saw. The two plastic saw parts that worry me, are the bevel lever and blade release. Time will tell how these items hold up on the jobsite. Improvements I’m a big fan of Milwaukee tools, but this one still needs more development. It’s a definitely bulky tool even with all the plastic parts it comes in on the heavier side of what I’d like to see for a jigsaw. The tool vibration needs to be addressed and reduced and Milwaukee should consider adding a variable speed dial to this saw. How Much and where to Buy? The M18 FUEL D-Handle Jig Saw sells online as a bare tool for $199.00 and kitted for $299.00. Both options come with the dust tube, shoe guard, anti-splinter guard. The kit unit comes with a 5 ah battery, charger and tool case. Overall Conclusion The M18 FUEL D-Handle Jig Saw is a definite improvement over its earlier version, it has a ton of power, added LED and dust collection. It’s certainly an effective tool, but it’s not quite where I’d want it, to be my “go-to” saw.

M18 FUEL Jig Saw Jigsaws are a powerful tool to have in your workshop or your tool bag on the job site. Especially when the jigsaw is cordless and you have the freedom to do what you wish and not be tied down with a cord. They are a flexible tool that allows for quick cuts to break down material, coping cuts, circular, convex, and concave cuts, and much more! With a variety of brands, styles, and battery platforms, picking the right jigsaw can be a tricky decision. Milwaukee Tool is making that decision easier with the release of two new FUEL Jig Saws.  Our interest in the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Jigsaw 2 kit started because this new tool has a wider range of strokes per minute than some of the others (0-3,500 spm).  Not only does it have a dust blower, but it has a switch to turn it off and port to allow for dust collection through a vacuum.  The 4-position orbital action lever a huge plus when working with different types of materials and different cut qualities needed.  Speed is one of the benefits of the orbital action and couple that with the torque of the new FUEL Jig Saw and one can cut some large material pretty fast.  The bevel adjustment is tool free and the blade attachment has a spring release to help shoot hot blades out of the Jig Saw. Multi-Application Tool There are many styles of jig saws designed for different uses.  Milwaukee is catering to both types of uses for a Jig Saw by making a D-handle and a Barrel-Grip model.  With the wide range of strokes per minute, the variable speed trigger on this unit gives it a lot of control and the ability to cut up to 3,500 spm with a 1" stroke.  After some longer cuts, the blade ejector keeps your hands safe from hot blades and allows for a smooth transition to a new material.  The ability to change how much air blows around the blade to keep chips and sawdust away from the cut line is a huge plus.  In the past, that wind was supplied by my lungs.  This unit allows you to choose from very little to a good amount of air to keep the cut line clean.  The ability to adjust this is a great convenience depending on the location you are working in.  Since you can use this tool in so many places, it seems fitting to be able to control this.  When cutting on a vertical surface, there is no need to blow the dust chips all over, so it might as well be turned off to limit the mess to a smaller area.  Adding dust collection via a vacuum allows for clean and safe indoor use. The 4-position orbital mode also helped cutting in other materials go a bit faster while also allowing me to dial it back for a bit cleaner cuts in thin wood.  It’s nice that this tool can be adjusted to work with the materials you are using.  Many of the jigsaws of today allow you to adjust to different orbital actions, some less than others, but it is still a nice feature. Overall It seems that many of the 18-volt jig saws are designed more as a general use jig saws while the smaller ones have a barrel style grip with their use designed to be more for fine woodworking and intricate cuts.  In our use, blade deflection was very minimal in thicker wood with the thick blades provided.  Blade deflection increases with thinner blades as expected.  If you are in the market for a new jigsaw, we think you will find this tool to be comfortable and familiar.

The Milwaukee M12 Jigsaw is a Go-To Cutting Tool. Even over the M18 Fuel Jigsaw. Well Sometimes....

Best Barrel Grip Jigs Saw ~ Head-2-Head

Best Cordless Barrel Grip Jigsaw ARTICLE: 🤍 For this evaluation, several categories were developed including; Precision & Accuracy, Performance (speed/power), Features, Ergonomics, and Price. Each of the categories was ranked individually and used to determine the Best Barrel Grip Jigsaw based on the combined results. Accuracy For the accuracy category each of the jigsaws was ranked on accuracy in the following areas: • Line of Sight • Blade tracking • Bevel accuracy when set to 45 degrees. • Cross-cut accuracy when set to 90 degrees (how perpendicular the cut is to the surface) Line of Sight For the scroll cutting each saw was set to maximum speed with zero orbital action. A scrolling template was used to trace all the boards consistently, and each jigsaw was used to make numerous cuts in 3/4'" Poplar. The DEWALT and Makita both had excellent cut line visibility, and the Makita was the best performing saw on the scroll cuts. The Milwaukee cut line visibility was good but not great and the Hilti dust shroud got in the way of the line of sight so we removed it. We all agreed that if we owned this saw the Hilti shroud would stay off. The Festool saw blade was difficult to see. The small-sized Diablo blade got lost [visually] inside the V-shaped blade guard. When cutting bevels the DEWALT saw had the best bevel sightline. Makita sightlines were slightly obscured, and Festool and Milwaukee had terrible sightlines. The Hilti sightline was good, but the LED light was blocked when set to a bevel. Clean Cutting Getting clean jigsaw cuts with only light splintering, tear out, and surface chipping is chiefly a matter of selecting a blade that's designed for the job. The DEWALT, Hilti, and Makita produced the cleanest edge, cutting saws with the least tear-out. This "clean-cut result," was also due to using the same Diablo blades along with the operator's skill set using the tools. The Festool and Milwaukee surprised us with rougher cuts Blade Deflection Every cut was measured and evaluated for blade deflection at 45-degree and 90-degree cutting. On the 90-degree cuts, Milwaukee ranked the best, followed by Makita and Festool. On the 45-degree cuts, the Makita ranked the best, followed by the Festool, and Milwaukee. Blade Tracking Tracking was evaluated by following lines to see how easy or hard it was to follow the line. The Makita, Festool, and DEWALT were the best tracking jigsaws. It's worth noting that when scoring the line-of-sight, points were awarded based on the operator's ability to consistently see the blade cutting through the poplar. Points were not awarded based on the cut-line deviation from the template cut-line. This ensured that operator error was minimized as a primary scoring factor in this evaluation area. Accuracy Winner - MAKITA Makita scored tops in three out of the four categories [clean cuts, tracking, and 45-degree blade deflection] and came in second 90-degree blade deflection. It scored a near-perfect score of 5-points and is truly a nice cutting, accurate jigsaw. Performance Testing (Power/Speed) The sled fixture held the saws securely and the aluminum tracks kept the saw moving in a consistent and parallel fashion. The saws were in contact with the sled and the sled in contact with the workpiece. Performance Testing (Power/Speed) – Winner Milwaukee We rank the performance testing by normalizing Watt-hours. Milwaukee came in on top followed by Hilti and Festool. When watching this test all of the crew members commented on Milwaukee's speed, which equates to power. Features – Winner DEWALT The DEWALT saw scored top in four feature categories 2nd in one category and 3rd in two categories with a total score of 12-points. A real close second place went to Makita with 13-points with 1st or 2nd place scores in every category. Third place went to Milwaukee with 14-points. Ergonomics Winner - Hilti and Makita Hilti and Makita tied in ergonomics with 6-points, which was four points ahead of the Festool and 7-points ahead of the DEWALT. Hilti had the best grip, tied on the blade change, and was the most friendly tolefties. Makita had the best and safest trigger and tied for the best blade change. Vibration - Winner Festool Best Cordless Jigsaw Winner –Festool and Makita The best barrel grip jigsaw score was a tie and went to the Festool and Makita with 12-points. Festool earned strong scores in Speed / Power Normalization, Vibration, and Scroll Cutting / Tracking. It is a highly engineered, well-made tool. Makita had strong showings in Ergonomics, Features, and Scroll Cutting / Tracking.During this testing, there were two saws that the crew kept talking about as being the nicest to operate and use - Makita and Hilti in that order. Makita being the crew favorite. #cordlessjigsaw #hilti #dewalttools #milwaukeetools

Milwaukee’s M18 Fuel Jig Saw enters the fray just as Makita, Ridgid, and DeWalt are releasing their updated models. Milwaukee isn’t following the crowd in every area, though. The 2737-20 includes a dust port attachment that installs easily in the back of the shoe. It’s also about as easy to maneuver as you’d expect from a D-handle jig saw. If, however, you’re a barrel grip guy, like me, Milwaukee has you covered there too with the 2737B which also adds variable speed dial speed and that lock-on switch. You’ll pay $199 for the bare tool or $299 for a kit with a 5 amp-hour battery and charger. It’s a little more than DeWalt on the bare tool side and a little less as a kit. Ridgid will run you quite a bit less and Makita is quite a bit more. Read the full review: 🤍

Milwaukee has come up with two new M18 FUEL jigsaws. The first is the Milwaukee M18 FUEL D-Handle jig saw. This new jigsaw launches in August 2018. The new jigsaws—both models—use a brushless motor and RedLink electronics to maintain blade speed under load. The goal is smooth cuts with less chipping or bucking. When paired with an M18 RedLithium 5.0Ah battery, the tool can cut 110 feet of 3⁄4" OSB. The D-handle features a tool-less bevel adjustment, variable speed trigger, and LED light along with an on/off blower. The Milwaukee M18 FUEL Barrell-Grip jig saw launches November 2018 and features ambidextrous on/off switches. It also includes a speed dial with a soft-start mode that automatically ramps up to full speed when it encounters the work piece. Finally, an on/off blower and LED light round out the features.

Hey everyone! John here with a tool review of the Milwaukee Fuel Jig Saw. I’m not a huge fan of corded tools and when I can get away from them I do. I’ve used this jigsaw over the past year many times as you can tell from the blade. I would recommend this tool as it is plenty of power, isn’t too heavy, and it’s versatile. But sit back, relax, and enjoy the review. Please leave any questions on it in the comments and I’ll be sure to answer them! Take care everyone! PLEASE HIT THE LIKE/SUBSCRIBE as it puts a smile on my face, and it’s free!
